my attempt to make the main riff practical
for acoustic playing:

riff 1:

verse:  (w/riff 1, but that gets tiring so I play just
B and E a lot and hint at the riff)

then we did we got a little happenin'
(on the last E chord before going into
the chorus, it sounds like they play an
Esus4)

chorus:

[riff 1]sweep up a little on your way out
you might make it

(w/riff 1)
with dottie, the bluegrass singer
baring her local breast
singing, "you want an open concept!?

*note difference from the first time around

i think that's the basic idea for the rest of it.
there's some brief modulation  to C
during the 'tonight's the night' section
at the end, something like C F C G then
B E B G stay on E for 3 beats, then
G and back  into the main riff
